Forty adult lower legs were dissected to investigate the morphology and neurovascular supplies of the vastus medialis muscle.The blood supply of the muscle was segmental.The blood vessels may originate from the branches of the femoral artery,the descending genicular artery,the deep femoral artery or the lateral circumflex femoral artery.The veins followed the courses of the arteries.The nerve innervating the muscle derived from the femoral nerve.The applied anatomic essentials of the vastus medialis muscle flap were discussed.
