The arterial supply to the menisci of the human knee in 56 specimens,ranging in age from 2 and a half to 87,has been studied by the arterial perfusion method.The peripheral one fifth of the adult menisci was exuberant in vascularity and its inner four fifths was avascular.The tears of the substance of the meniscus commonly took place in the avascular zone or at the junction between the vascular and avascular zones.Degeneration and fraying of the menisci occurred in an avascular area.
