嘉兴,水网纵横,土膏沃饶,素有"鱼米之乡,丝绸之府"之美誉。千百年来,嘉兴的繁华、运河的秀丽,伴随着往来舟楫的船歌号子和文人墨客的挥洒吟唱,一起流淌。早在南北朝时,梁元帝的《玄览赋》便云"时渡各水之阳,尚想嘉禾之方"。大运河畔建三塔镇白龙的传说从唐代流传至今。宋代,陆蒙老为月波楼、披云阁等景观写下《嘉禾八咏》。元代,画家吴镇绘制了《嘉禾八景图》,每景都作词题赞。明代,嘉禾献瑞、秀水扬辉、滮湖春日、鸳湖秋月等嘉禾十景闻名遐迩。
