法国哲学家、汉学家弗朗索瓦·朱利安借助于"取道中国,反观欧洲"的迂回策略,对中西古代形式美学进行了观照与反思。他从中西古代美学话语入手,通过互证互识,全面地展示了中国古代形式美学的独特面目:从本体层面而言,西方形式美学强调"形式—理式"之间的模拟关系,而中国古代形式美学更强调"形—神"之间的感应关系;从文本层面而言,西方形式美学过度追求模型化的精确,而中国古代形式美学偏于追求虚灵的模糊;就思维方式而言,西方形式美学追求非此即彼的二元对立,而中国古代形式美学追求亦此亦彼的二元交互融合。
