摘要
新医科背景下,医学院校的通用英语教师逐渐向医学英语教师转型,但面临很大挑战。本研究通过对9位从通用英语转向医学英语的教师访谈发现,转型教师在医学英语教学实践中需要的医学专业知识低于预期,仅需掌握基础的医学知识即可。他们通过集体转型、"老带新"转型和独自转型三种途径,并通过自学、集体备课、咨询医学专业人士等方式,克服医学专业知识不足带来的困难,实现了转型。同时,对医学英语课程性质有正确的认识、参加专门用途英语培训和医学专业知识培训(学习)等被看作是成功转型的重要条件。
English for Medical Purposes(EMP)courses are gradually but commonly offered in place of English for General Purposes(EGP)at medical universities in China.Under such circumstances,teachers are facing great challenges in the transition from EGP to EMP.This paper reports an empirical study of nine English teachers at a medical university.It is found that obstacles in terms of lack of medical subject knowledge are much less insurmountable than expected.They have accomplished the transition on a team,with the help of an experienced EMP teacher,or individually.Moreover,they have gained medical knowledge through autonomous learning,team cooperation,and consultancy from medical professionals.In addition,having a correct understanding of the nature of EMP courses,attending ESP training and medical lectures are considered significant conditions for the transition.
