语用学效率原则指导下的ESP教学实验

An ESP Teaching Experiment Guided by Efficiency Principle of Pragmatics

语用学的效率原则指交际效率的最大化原则。ESP是专业信息交流,要达到交际效率的最大化,必须遵循和应用ESP语境下的语用规则和交际技巧。《技术与商务交流英语》教材以ESP的共核理念和效率原则为指导,采用显性教学法,涵盖各专业学科通用的语用规则和交际技巧,以便有效提高学习者的专业信息交流能力。我院使用该教材在商务英语专业(简称"商英专业")四年级进行教学实验。实验后问卷调查表明,学生在信息收集、专业写作、图表应用、文件设计和专业阅读方面的能力均有提高。商英专业与英语专业毕业论文写作特征的比较分析显示,商英专业学生在文件设计、图表应用和语态选用方面明显优于英语专业学生(p≤0.05)。对商英专业学生该课程成绩与其毕业论文成绩的相关性分析结果(0.749)进一步证明,本课程提高了学生论文写作的质量。因此,以语用学效率原则为指导的ESP课程是提升ESP教学和论文写作效果的有效方法。

Efficiency principle of pragmatics is the principle of obtaining maximum communication efficiency with the least effort.ESP,as a tool for technical communication,must follow pragmatic rules and use communication skills to achieve the maximum efficiency.Guided by ESP’s commoncore concepts and efficiency principles,English for Technical and Business Communication(ETBC)teaches explicitly the pragmatic rules and communication skills transferable to all disciplines in order to raise students’technical communication ability effectively.We have conducted an ETBC teaching experiment for Business-English seniors in our faculty.The results of the questionnaire show an overall improvement of the students’abilities in information collection,technical writing,graphic application,document design and technical reading.The comparison of students’graduation papers indicates that the Business-English majors are significantly better in document design,graphic application and voice use than the English majors(p≤0.05).The result of correlation efficiency(0.749)between the ETBC course scores of the Business-English majors and their graduation paper scores further proves that the ETBC course has improved the quality of their graduation papers.Therefore,the ETBC course guided by the efficiency principle of pragmatics is an effective approach to ESP teaching.
