作者、译者、原文、译文——莫言《红高粱家族》中英版本对比研究

Author,Translator,Source and Translation:A Study of the Gaps Between the China’s Mainland Edition,the Taiwan Edition and the English Version of Mo Yan’s Novel Red Sorghum

摘要 莫言小说《红高粱家族》有两个版本——中国大陆版本和中国台湾版本。由于葛浩文英译本是以台湾版本为源文本(作者推荐),本文通过探讨两个中文版本之间的差别,发现作者向译者推荐版本时关注受众的意识形态,这种关注导致原文中的说书人传统丢失。源文本与英译本之间也存在差别:由于固化的思维方式、主流诗学的影响以及目标文化中翻译文学的边缘地位,译文采取了改写策略,导致原文的意义有所扭曲、叙述顺序被修改以及大量的删节(包括小幅度的删节、缩写和大幅度的删节)。 Mo Yan’s novel Red Sorghum has two Chinese versions–the China’s mainland edition and Taiwan edition.As the English version translated by Goldblatt is based on the Taiwan edition–a recommendation of the author,this paper,by discussing the gaps between those two Chinese editions,finds that it is the author who takes the ideology of the intended audience into consideration and that this consideration yields an inadvertent cost of the source text’s narrative style–the storyteller tradition.Also,by exploring the gaps between the Taiwan edition and its English version,it discovers that a strategy of rewriting is adopted in the handling of the source text,which entails changes in meaning,alteration in narrative order,and deletions(including occasional minor deletions,abridgements and major cuts)—all these differences are results of stereotype influence,dominant poetics and the peripheral position of translated literature in the target culture.
