《红楼梦》霍克斯译本中的方言翻译策略分析

Analysis on Translation Strategies of Dialects in Hawks’ The Story of the Stone

曹雪芹先生的《红楼梦》博大精深,在中国乃至世界均影响深远。随着《红楼梦》在海外的译介与传播,"红学"已成为国际性显学。该著语言措辞精妙,尤其是对方言的使用蕴意深厚,雅俗共赏,具有极高的文学性与美学价值。译者认为这些方言如何翻译,直接影响到西方读者的文学审美。目前海内外学者针对该著方言的翻译研究多从不同的翻译理论角度出发,分析其翻译得失。本文对《红楼梦》前八十回中的部分方言进行构词分类并将霍克斯的《石头记》译本中相关的翻译策略予以解析,发现若干方言多次出现于文中,有些译文却风格迥异。经过对比与分析,探讨霍克斯对《红楼梦》中方言译文的处理策略,归化中的变通与补偿、省略与转换等。有助于中外读者对其中部分方言词汇的翻译进行深入解读,更加细致地了解译者的翻译策略与思维。

Cao Xueqin’s Honglou Meng is recondite and always impacting China and even the whole world significantly and deeply.As media-translation and the transmission of Honglou Meng go abroad,Redology has already developed an international famous school.The locution in this masterpiece is extremely magnificent,especially the profound implication in the use of dialects,which is the broadest widely applicable and with unexceptionable literacy as well as aesthetic values.The specific translation strategies on how to translate the dialects may directly influence the appreciation of the literary aesthetics of the western readers.Currently,most of the scholars focus on the translation research of dialects from the angle of different translation theories and analyze the gain and loss in translations.This paper aims at the translation strategies of dialects in the first 80 chapters of Hawks’The Story of the Stone according to classification of word-building methods on some dialects in Honglou Meng.It turns out a number of dialects appeared repetitively in Honglou Meng but some of them are with considerable diversity in translation styles.Through the comparison and analysis,this paper covers strategies of dialects translations in Hawks’The Story of the Stone flexibility,compensation,ellipsis as well as transformation etc.in domestication.Research in this paper may contribute to the deep comprehension on translation of some dialects in Honglou Meng,even the translation strategies and thinking of the translator in a more detailed way.
