钱锺书《谈艺录》三个人物字号误识之考析和思考

Three Naming Errors in Qian Zhongshu’s Tan Yi Lu: Analysis and Reflection

钱锺书先生《谈艺录·朱子书与诗》中一段170多字的札记,存在着三个人物字号误识的问题,即:"章甫"并非赵蕃之字号;符叙,字舜功,而非圣功;赵蕃诗句"平生知己晦庵老"指的是李处全,而非朱熹。这些固然是白璧之微瑕,但作为影响颇大的名人名著,似有必要就其致误缘由作些探析和思考,从中得到有益的启示。

In a commentary of no more than 180 Chinese characters on Zhu Xi’s writing in Qian Zhongshu’s Tan Yi Lu(Reflections in Appreciation),three errors in referencing courtesy names are found:1)Zhangfu 章甫was not the courtesy name of Zhao Fan 赵蕃;2)the courtesy name of Fu Xu 符叙was Shungong 舜功,not Shenggong 圣功;and 3)"the life confidant Hui’an,the old"in Zhao Fan’s verse refers to Li Chuquan 李处全,not Zhu Xi.Undoubtedly,these flaws are minor,suggesting nothing to the great quality of this modern classic by Qian.However,to analyze and reflect on the causes of even the slightest errors in such an eminent work by such an eminent scholar would be helpful for us to draw lessons from.
