Harlem Duet is a masterpiece of contemporary African Canadian playwright Djanet Sears. The play has a distinct spatial character.Through spatialization attempts in the areas of plot setting, narrative mode, and scene description,Sears demonstrates the magnificent history of the struggle of African Americans, the racial and gender conflicts within the black community, and the healing power of Canada for African Americans while revealing the ethnic and gender trauma suffered by the African American community and conveying her thoughts on the history and future of the diaspora black community.Through this play,Sears not only realizes innovation in theatre spatiality, but also embodies her identity and national pride as an African Canadian playwright.
