In the context of the global urbanization movement, the development of urbanization in China has gradually shifted from new projects to the organic regeneration of stock sites.Greenway renewal is also an important part of it,bearing the function of linking urban areas and carrying regional culture. Some built greenways are not innovative enough in their design approach or lack of differentiation in their angle of entry. This paper takes the greenway design along the Tang section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Jiaxing City and the Beijiao River as an example to explore the design of urban waterfront greenway from the micro perspective. From the four perspectives of physics, culture, population and perception, the canal elements are microscopically integrated into the canal context to provide some inspiration for the future greenway design.
