Liang Qichao's“Middle Society”Thought and Biography as the“Middle Genre”

本文以传记如何想象新民形象为中心,考察梁启超“中等社会”思想与作为“中等文体”的传记的互动。社会的历史循环结构,需要由既非“当道”也非“小民”的中间力量打破。“思想”与“宣传”的对应象征分别是“史传”和“小说”,“传记”则介于二者之间,是“中等社会”的对应物。借由传记实践,他得以想象、印证并召唤理想的美学人格,这是他选择传记的动因,也是观察中国现代传记文体发生与发展的独特视角。

This paper focuses on how biography imagines the image of the New People and the interaction between Liang Qichao's“the middle society”ideology and biography as“the middle genre”.The disruption of the historical cycle requires a middle force that is neither from the upper class nor from the lower class.Liang believed that historiography and fiction respectively represents the mainstream ideology and the public promotion,while biography is the in-between and the counterpart of the“middle society”.Through his practice of biographies,Liang was able to confirm,imagine and create the ideal aesthetic personality,to which his choice of biography is attributed.Liang's insight also provides a perspective for studying the development of modern Chinese biography.
