Review on 40 Poets of the Song Dynasty is the newly-discovered posthumous work by Wan Minhao the famous scholar.It has undergone constant additions and revisions from single essays to a collection.The manuscript is a collective biography of 40 Anhui Lyricists in the Song Dynasty,with the focus on their birth and death,native place,family background,learing and exams,appointments and careers,comment on lyric editions,existing and lost works and artistic achievements,etc.In the manuscript,“Review of Zhang Xiaoxiang”has become an important milestone of Mr.Wan's Xiaoxiang research undertaking.Mr.Wan's research philosophy changes from patriotism at the early stage to his personal preference in his later years,and is fraught with his life sensations throughout his career.This book follows the approach of critical biography characterized as"centering on a biographee with detailed life stories and comment on the works".It is not only unparalleled in the history of the development of modern lyrics,but also makes a unique contribution to the study of biography.
