Identity Construction in Chiang Yee’s Travel Writings

蒋彝在海外共出版了13本游记,展现了自己多国多疆域的跨文化生活。通过连贯的游记书写,蒋彝积极回应了彼时西方社会对中国的刻板印象与偏见,构建了以中国文化为根基的世界主义身份。本文从游记的文类特性着手,通过分析蒋彝游记书写的主题、内容和技巧,挖掘蒋彝在跨文化生活中消解流散创伤、建构自我身份的独特策略。

Altogether Chiang Yee(1903-1977)had published thirteen travel books overseas,demonstrating his trans-national and trans-cultural experiences.In his continuous travel writings,Chiang Yee constructed his cosmopolitan identity based on his Chinese culture background,by responding to the established stereotypes and bias,which were presented by the Western discourse.This paper is based on the generic features of travel writings,and intends to explore Chiang Yee’s unique travel writing strategies,themes and content,which helped him resolve diasporic trauma and construct identity.
