Biobits and the Life Writing Environment——From Micro to Macro

Short form life writing is attracting a lot of attention in the fields of autobiography and biography these days.In this brief paper,I offer a quick history of Western brief lives,and a list of some of the genres flourishing recently.I then draw upon the critical and theoretical works of Marlene Kadar,Julie Rak,and Helen Buss to suggest that engaging critically with the fragment,the anecdote,or the song is not only a good idea in general,but especially suitable for dealing with indigenous Pacific life writing scholarship,which can in turn offer us metaphors for what macro might correspond to the micro of biobits.
