The Presentist and Futurist Turns of Life Writing:Review of the PKU-KCL Joint Symposium

传记是时间的艺术。过去、现在和未来之时间三维是研究传记的重要切入。既有传记研究大多立足过去,对于现在的讨论不足,针对未来的讨论更少。北京大学-伦敦大学国王学院传记研讨会关注传记的当下转向与未来转向,既涉及新兴的数字媒介、视频播主、社交网络等主题,也探究了身体、疾病、医疗等问题在当代的全新呈现,更延伸出对于水下传记、未来传记等传记类型的具体讨论。传记的时间跨度兼容了传记的多样主题,使得传记研究展示出别具一格的旨趣。

Life-writing is the art of time.The temporary trilogy of the past,the present,and the future poses as an important entry point to lifewriting scholarship.The existing research primarily focuses on the past,revealing insufficient discussions on the present and even fewer on the future.The PKU-KCL Joint Symposium brings the present and the future to the front stage.It involves not only emerging themes including digital media,video blogger,and social networks,but also contemporary representations of the body,illness,and medicine.The scope of the Symposium further stretches to specific inspections of life-writing underwater and life-writing for the future.The temporal inclusivity of lifewriting realizes its diversity of topics,demonstrating unique purports of lifewriting research.
