Our Commitment to the Cause of Life Writing:A Summary of the Seven-Year Major Project

上海交通大学传记中心所实施的国家社科基金重大项目"境外中国现代人物传记资料整理与研究",经过国内外20多位专家7年的通力合作和辛勤工作,终于胜利完成。项目主要成果是包含3000个传主、10000多种资料、6个语种的"境外中国现代人物传记资料多语种全文数据库"(第一期)和10卷近300万字的《境外中国现代人物传记研究》。上海交大传记中心为了推进中国的传记事业,以这一项目为依托多方开展工作,出版了《现代传记研究》辑刊和"现代传记文库",召开了两次国际会议以及多次传记论坛和工作坊,同国外一些传记研究机构建立了协作关系,产生了一定的国际影响。

After seven years of concerted efforts and gruelling research,the Major Project("Compilation and Research of Overseas Life Writing on Modern Chinese People")sponsored by National Social Sciences Fund has been completed by over 20 experts from ten Chinese universities and institutes led by Center for Life Writing,Shanghai Jiao Tong University.The key project accomplishments include The Multilingual Full-Text Database of Overseas Life Writing on Modern Chinese People(PhaseⅠ),featuring over 3,000 subjects,10,000 entries and six language versions and ten volumes of A Research of Overseas Life Writing on Modern Chinese People(nearly 3 million Chinese characters).Dedicated to promoting China’s life writing,Center for Life Writing,Shanghai Jiao Tong University,has made great efforts concerning the project in cooperation with various partners,such as publishing the Journal of Modern Life Writing Studies and the Serials on Modern Life Writing,hosting two international conferences,several symposiums and a workshop on life writing,establishing partnership with overseas life-writing institutes and achieving international influence to some extent.
