This article discusses the status of Old Chinese chóngniǔ(重纽)from the perspective of language contact.The distinctions between chóngniǔ division-Ⅲ and chóngniǔ division-Ⅳ in Sino-Xenic and Chinese loanwords reflect the distinctions of the source language.In particular,the maintenance of the distinctions and correspondences of Sino-Korean constitutes important evidence for the distinctions of the source language,and is also the part where the respective materials can be most used.The distinctions in the correspondences formed through language contact confirm the presence of distinctions in the source language.Therefore,in Middle Chinese,it is necessary to distinguish chóngniǔ division-Ⅲ from chóngniǔ division-Ⅳ.To explain the conditions of sound change,it is necessary to distinguish between Old Chinese chóngniǔ division-Ⅲ and chóngniǔ division-Ⅳ.
