Based on the Communication Infrastructure Theory, this study explores the diachronic evolution of the story-telling system of grass roots media in the Danwei community and its multiple meanings through qualitative research methods such as observation,in-depth interviews and focus groups. On the spatial dimension,Zhangcun Mine TV Station is taken as an organic subject, embedded in the unique social structure of“Danwei-workers residents”,and the practice of discourse interaction between TV station and coal miners, mining area residents, and Danwei leaders is explored. On the time dimension, the 32 years from the establishment of Zhangcun Mine TV Station in 1985 to its closure in 2017 will be embedded in the 40 years of China's coal mine industry reform, and the changes of TV station story telling practice will be interpreted in four stages. It is found that in the process of Danwei community development, the role of Zhangcun Mine TV Station is no longer limited to the communication organization of the enterprise and entertainment facilities in the resident areas, but gradually develops into the power technology to realize social governance, the producer of coal workers subjective discourse, and the active builder of a new shared community.Rethinking the life history of the media in the industrial and mining areas represented by Zhangcun Mine TV Station may explore a path for the cultural revival of the old Danwei community.
