Discussion of Zheng Zhen and Zheng Zhitong's Theory of Mutual Explanations

转注是六书学和《说文》体例研究的重要内容,清末以来的学者,多从汉字发展规律的角度阐释转注,建树颇多。郑珍父子在《说文浅说·转注》中系统阐述了转注学说,他们对转注的定义、功能和原理做了深入的考辨,注重从六书系统性和区别性的角度去揭示转注的特点和性质,并将转注法则运用于字形分析实践,在转注研究史上,其学术思想对于进一步深化我们对六书的认识和研究具有参考价值。

So-called“Mutual Explanations”was an important feature in the studies of Six Categories and the Shuo Wen Jie Zi.Scholars since the end of the Qing Dynasty mostly explained the Mutual Explanations from the perspective of the law of the development of Chinese characters,which received many contributions.Zheng Zhen(郑珍)and Zheng Zhitong(郑知同)systematically examined the theory of Mutual Explanations in the Shuo Wen Qian Shuo.They examined its definition,function,and revealed its characteristics and nature systematically from the perspective of the discriminative angles of Six Categories.They then applied their theory of Mutual Explanations to the practice of characters analysis.In the history of Mutual Explanations research,Zheng Zhen and Zheng Zhitong's academic thought has had great value as a reference for understanding and researching the Six Categories.
