陶瓷典籍中款识的英译研究——以《中国陶瓷图录》为例

A Study on the English Translation of Characters in Ceramic Classics——A Case Study of the Catalogue of Chinese Ceramics

款识是中国古陶瓷研究中的一项主要内容。作为陶瓷术语之一,款识的英译对中国陶瓷文化的传播有着重要的意义。文章以20世纪英国陶瓷学家霍布森创作翻译的《中国陶瓷图录》为例,将图录中六种款识类型分成两个大类,探究款识的翻译方法,并结合款识相关的历史和人文等因素,对霍氏译文提出一些修改意见,以期能为陶瓷术语的英译提供参照。

Mark is important in the study of ancient Chinese potteries and ceramics.As one of the ceramic terms,the English translation of“mark”is of great significance for the dissemination of Chinese ceramic culture.This article takes the example of Catalogue of Chinese Pottery and Porcelain In The Collection of Sir Percival David produced and translated by the British ceramic scholar Robert Lockhart Hobson in the 20th century,dividing the six types of marks into two categories,exploring the translation methods of them,and combining historical and cultural factors,proposing some revision suggestions for his English translation,in order to provide reference for the English translation of ceramic terms.
