Kong Yiji,one of the classic short stories in the history of Chinese literature in the 20 th century,was the second vernacular short story by Lu Xun,a great master of modern Chinese literature.Kong Yiji was first published in No.4,Volume 6 of the magazine New Youth in April 1919,and later incorporated into Call to Arms,a collection of short stories by Lu Xun.In 2009,Penguin Group published the Complete Fiction of Lu Xun,including Kong Yiji,translated by Julia Lovell,a British sinologist and translator.The publication of Julia Lovell’s translation was just90 years away from the first publication of Kong Yiji.How did Julia Lovell reproduce the charm of Kong Yiji to western readers from Asia to Europe,with a time span of nearly a century?This paper focuses on the translation of the culture-oriented words in Julia Lovell’s version of Kong Yiji.
