Love in a Fallen City is one of Eileen Chang’s most popular short stories.Based on the love story of Bai Liusu and Fan Liuyuan,it discusses love,marriage,human nature as well as the survival and struggle of ordinary people.The Golden Cangue is also Eileen Chang’s pinnacle work,which tells the tragic and distorted life of the protagonist Cao Qiqiao.It reflects,in a small view,how a specific social and living environment can turn a normal woman with a warm personality into a vicious woman.In the 1970 s and 1980 s,Eileen Chang translated her works,which were not widely-accepted on the market.After the translation by the famous American Sinologist Karen Kingsbury,these works have been widely understood and read by people in English-speaking countries,and won a great fame at that time.This article will analyze the differences between Chang’s and Kingsbury’s version of translation under the guidance of Ecotranslaology.
