从严复的“信、达、雅”重析本杰明翻译思想

本杰明与严复是东西方翻译界举足轻重的泰斗,同时二人皆在翻译作品时所作的序言里抒发了各自对于翻译理论及翻译方法的领悟。严复的"信、达、雅"的译事三难引起中国翻译家与文人热议;而本杰明提出的"纯语言"及"可译性"也为西方翻译理论家和翻译家开拓了新思路;两位翻译大师及他们的作品和翻译思想皆成为世界翻译学界最具争议性的翻译话题。文章另辟蹊径,从严复提出的"信、达、雅"的角度重新看待本杰明的翻译理论,以期融合两位大家的翻译思想,为今后译者的翻译实践提供指导。

Benjamin and Yan Fu are the leading figures in the field of translation studies around the world.Meanwhile,they have both expressed their understandings on translation theory and criteria in the introduction to their translation works.Yan Fu’s three difficulties in translating"Faithfulness,Expressiveness and Elegance"have aroused heated discussion among Chinese translators and scholars.Benjamin’s"pure language"and"translatability",which became one of the most controversial academic topics in the 20 th century,also had ushered translation studies into a new era for western theorists and translators.This paper aims to view Benjamin’s theories from the perspective of Yan Fu’s translation criteria to integrate their translation thoughts and provide practical guidance for future translation studies.
