The preserved editions of Historical Records of Five Dynasties or Wudaishiji五代史記have complicated relationships.Although its Song editions underwent thorough investigations, scholars have paid inadequate attention to Yuan,Ming and Qing editions.By tracking the engraved blocks and printed editions, this paper reexamines two Yuan editions and draws new conclusions.Since the Northern Song Dynasty, there are two lines of development of editions of this book, each with distinct characters. In the Yuan Dynasty, the representative of line A was the Zongwen Academy宗文書院edition, and the representative of system B was the ten-line Fujian edition建刻十行本.Both editions went through intricate repair processes in the Ming Dynasty, and their repairs and changes tried to absorb the advantages of each other. In the Ming Dynasty, there were Wang Wensheng edition汪文盛本,Nanjing Imperial Academy edition南監本and Beijing Imperial Academy edition北監本.The Wang Wensheng edition and Beijing Imperial Academy edition combined the two Yuan editions. The Nanjing Imperial Academy edition inherited the text of system A.In the late Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty,Mao Jin's Jigu Pavilion edition毛晋汲古閣本and Wuying Hall edition武英殿本directly inherited the Beijing Imperial Academy edition. The whole history of editions of Ouyang Xiu's Records could be concluded as a history of competition and entanglement between system A and B.
