Environmental Problems and Governance in London during the 16th-17th Century

16—17世纪的伦敦被许多环境问题所困扰,比如生活垃圾遍地、街道设施落后、住房拥挤低矮、瘟疫盛行及前工业污染等。这是近代早期伦敦快速发展成为英国工商业贸易中心、外来人口大量涌入、公共设施落后等多方面因素共同导致的结果。尽管王室、议会和伦敦市政府采取了一系列的措施予以整治,也取得了一定效果,但是并没有从根本上解决环境问题。

London was troubled with so many environmental problems during the 16;-17;century,including littered rubbish,backward infrastructure,poor housing conditions,plague,pollutions caused by pre-industrial period,and so on.All these problems resulted from the following elements including London rapidly developing into the center of industry,commerce,and trade of the country in early period of modern times,lots of people migrating into the city,backward public infrastructure,and so on.Though the British royal government and London municipality took many measures and achieved some effects,they did not solve environmental problem thoroughly.
