副文本视角下的怜为仁圣经注译本研究

A Paratextual Study of William Dean’s Annotated Chinese Biblical Translations

本文从副文本视角研究美国浸信会传教士怜为仁1848至1851年间相继付梓的三卷圣经汉译本《马太福音书注释》《创世传注释》《出麦西传注释》。这些译本的序、总论、跋、注、附录中包含着丰富的信息,透露出译者的翻译目的、译经思想、翻译策略、所用技巧、译经伦理、读者关怀,乃至其对汉文化、对中华文明的认同。有鉴于此,副文本或许可以成为研究圣经汉译史和传教士圣经汉译本的一种可行路径,及一个颇具阐释力的工具。

This article offers a paratextual study of three of American Baptist missionary William Dean’s Chinese biblical translations published successively from 1848 to 1851:The Gospel of Matthew in Chinese with Explanatory Notes,Genesis with Explanatory Notes,and Exodus with Notes.By probing into the three versions’prefaces,introductions,notes,postscripts and appendices,the article attempts to reveal the translation purposes,the translator’s ideas and ethics,translation strategies and techniques,as well as the translator’s concerns for target readers and his identification with the target language culture."Paratext"emerges as a potential approach and powerful tool to study the history of Chinese bible translation and different versions of Chinese bibles translated by Protestant missionaries.
