沿着文学伦理学批评的路径,将《恐怖分子》置于后“9·11”时代美国少数族裔身份危机、生存困境和美国当代社会伦理式微的伦理语境加以理解,有助于挖掘该作品隐藏的伦理价值,洞察厄普代克深层的写作意义。研究发现,《恐怖分子》一方面对当代道德疑惑和伦理危机的形式予以表征,使读者展开家庭伦理、伦理选择和伦理身份的争论,另一方面对读者的他者伦理和行动责任予以刺激,唤起读者清醒的伦理认知。因此,《恐怖分子》既饱含厄普代克深层的伦理旨归,又实现作者与读者之间的伦理交流和文学的伦理教诲功能,彰显厄普代克的文学创作于当代社会重要的伦理价值。

From the perspective of ethical literary criticism,the interpretation of Terrorist in the ethical context of American minority’s identity crisis,existential predicament and ethical decline in the post-Sep 11 era will help to excavate the work’s hidden ethical value with an insight into the profound meaning of Updike’s writing.It is found that,on the one hand,terrorist represents the forms of contemporary moral doubts and ethical crises,enabling readers to engage in debates on family ethics,ethical choice and ethical identity;and on the other hand,it stimulates readers’ethics of the other and responsibility for action,arousing readers’sensible ethical cognition.Therefore,Terrorist not only contains Updike’s deep ethical purpose,but also realizes the ethical communication between the author and the readers and the function of literature’s ethical instruction,demonstrating the significant ethical value of Updike’s literary creation in contemporary society.
