摘要
In terms of force composition in Newtonian Mechanics, there is a threat of causal redundancy for resultant forces. The reductive model attempted to explain away this redundancy by assuming the identity between the resultant force and its component forces. In this article, however,I argue that the reductive model is problematic. After that,I develop an emergentist model which secures the distinct causal relevance of resultant forces to the effect. On the emergentist model, the resultant force causes the effect in virtue of cooperative and inhibitory interaction among component forces. In contrast with the reductive model, the emergentist model is a more plausible approach to specify force composition.
