Defining Hellenistic World:the Issue and Spread of the Coinage of Alexader

亚历山大东征过程中,发行了带有个人风格的钱币。这种钱币以阿提卡币制为标准,正反面均有神的肖像,并以铭文"ALEXANDRO"表明了钱币所属。此后很多希腊城市以及希腊化王国均发行亚历山大风格的钱币,只是钱币肖像和铭文有所变化,遂使亚历山大型钱币成为希腊化世界的通用货币。亚历山大型钱币的出现和传播使希腊化世界拥有了一种相对统一的货币体系,不仅便利了希腊化世界的贸易往来,也成为统治者宣传统治合法性、表达王权观念的工具,体现了新的希腊化认同,它同希腊语的使用一样,成为定义希腊化世界的标志。

Alexander issued his individual coinage during his expedition.His coinage was struck on the Attic weight standard and carried the iconography of Gods on the obverse and reverse and the inscription"ALEXANDRO"which showed the issuer.Afterwards,many Greek city-states and hellenistic kingdoms issued the coinage of Alexander,with different iconography and inscription,which made the coinage of Alexader become common currency in hellenistic world.Due to the issue and spread of this coinage,there was a relatively uniform coinage system in hellenistic world.It made trade contacts easier and the rulers used it to propagate the legitimacy and kingship concept.Like Koine,it expressed new hellenistic identities and defined hellenistic world.
