This brief review tries to gauge "the transnational turn" in American Studies in terms of the evolution of American Historiography in the long run. This turning approach as one kind of historical writing strategy did not make a breakthrough essentially in the national states narrative paradigm. This approach can be viewed as a sort of self-reflection among local American historians in response to their previous parochial attitude when they are writing their national histories. If we want to figure out this trend’s potential driving force,we need to trace back to the genealogy of American Historiography in the past century.
