Along with the emergence of digital technology and cultural industry, the terms-fandom,subculture and popular culture are becoming keywords in both industrial discussions and cultural studies. The article has reviewed the literature in the field of fandom studies since the 1980 s,attempting to summarize the features of fandom studies and point out the significance of fan subjectivity. The article argues that fans were commonly"absent"in many local fandom studies in China,so that the current local fandom studies were risking the danger of Essentialism.Through literature review, the article aims to provide important theoretical perspectives as well as research pathways as references for future fandom studies in China.
