《你以为你是谁?》是加拿大作家艾丽丝·门罗的第四个短篇小说集,一共有十个故事,发生在八个不同的空间。小说集描写露丝逃离家乡西汉拉提,而后在不同的空间里漂流,最后又回归家乡,来展现其身份的流转以及她探求自我身份的过程。但她所有向外的探求均以失败告终,这表明是凝结了深厚情感的地方而不是空荡抽象的空间才能为她提供稳固的身份认同,才能帮助她实现从“非我”到“我”的转换。换言之,她虽然可以离开家乡,但是永远无法摆脱它,因为家乡在她深层心理结构中早已将她塑形。她只有在心理上重回家乡以及那里浓厚的亲情依附,她才能找回真正的自我。

Who Do You Think You Are?Is the fourth of Alice Munro's story collections,containing ten stories,each happening in different space.This story collection demonstrates Rose's flee from her hometown West Hanratty,her subsequent drifing in different kinds of space and her final return there in order to show the flow and exploration of her identity.But all her outer quests ended up with failure,indicating that it is the place infused with strong emotions instead of the abstract and empty space that can afford bher a steady identity,helping her to realize the transformation from“not me”to“me”.In other words,she may flee from her hometown,but she can never get rid of it,because it has already shaped who she is in her deep psychological structure.She could only find her real self when she returned psychologically to her root and the heavy bondage there.
