摘要
《幕间》是弗吉尼亚·伍尔夫的最后一部作品。整部作品如一个寓言,具有高度的象征性。在《幕间》中,除了意识流技巧的运用,还呈现出在小说里鲜见的戏中戏结构。戏中戏结构指在一部戏剧中内置一个或多个层面的戏剧,《幕间》中的戏中戏结构具有两个层面:一层是外显的,由露天历史剧及波宅生活构成;一层是潜藏的,由言语和意识构成。戏中戏结构将人们观念中的真实与虚构倒置,这种倒置传达出伍尔夫的历史观:历史是不断循环的。
As Virginia Woolf's last work,Between the Acts is a highly symbolic work as an allegory.In addition to the use of masterful stream-of-consciousness skills,Between the Acts also presents a rare structure,which is called the Play-within-a-Play,embedded with one or more layers of performance.The Play within-a-Play structure in Between the Acts has two levels:one is explicit,composed of the open-air English history play and people's life in Pointz Hall;the other one is implicit,consisting of words and consciousness.This structure inverts fiction and the truth accepted by the public.And this inversion conveys Woolf's conception of history:history keeps going in circles.
