The development of Wenzhou Gaoqiang can be investigated by studying the historical materials of Xiqu in Wenzhou Zhuzhi Ci(Bamboo Branch Lyrics).Wenzhou Gaoqiang inherits Yiyang tune and early Wenzhou Gaoqiang tune,followed by Siping tune and Huichi elegant tune,which is influenced by and composed of many tunes and dramas.Wenzhou Gaoqiang was popular in Wenzhou areas since Qianlong period,flourished in the late Jiaqing period,began to decline after Daoguang period,and still had some popularity in Tongzhi period,finally its was completely replaced by Wenzhou Kunqu in Guangxu period.
