奚如谷和伊维德英译《西厢记》深度翻译研究

On Thick Translation in Stephen H. West and Wilt L. Idema’s The Story of the Western Wing

奚如谷和伊维德的The Story of the Western Wing以现存最早、最完整的弘治本《西厢记》为底本,综合运用多种深度翻译策略,促进了《西厢记》在英语世界的传播与接受。本文从文本内、文本外两个维度进行考察,发现奚译本中的夹注、脚注、插图、介绍等形式的深度翻译策略,具有化暗为明、深层铺垫、画说文化、文学渲染等功能,最大限度地还原了王实甫原作的风貌。全球化语境下,深度开发、综合应用深度翻译策略,有助于推动中国文学、文化"走出去"。

On the basis of the earliest and most complete version,Stephen H.West and Wilt L.Idema’s The Story of the Western Wing comprehensively employs multiple forms of thick translation and facilitates the spread and acceptance of Xixiang Ji in the English world.The paper examines the inside and outside translation,and finds that thick translation in the form of parenthesis,footnote,illustration,and introduction and so on restores the meaning and style of Wang Shifu’s original work to the utmost extent.In the context of globalization,further development and comprehensive application of thick translation will help promote the overseas dissemination of Chinese literature and culture.
