符号学视角下的唐诗服饰文化英译研究

Study on the English Translation of the Costume Culture in Tang Poems from the perspective of Semiotics

唐诗中蕴含着丰富的服饰文化。本文分析了服饰文化在唐诗中的表现形式,并以美国译者哈里斯的《唐诗三百首》英译本为例,从符号学视角探究其中的服饰文化英译方法。文章认为,译者所采用的服饰文化英译方法主要包括:采用上义词统一名词术语;还原汉字语境涵义;直译汉语特色意象词;弱化"借代"与"典故"的修辞特征。这些翻译方法重在传达语言符号的语用意义及指称意义,取得了较好的跨文化交流效果;在此基础上,译者也尽可能兼顾语言形式的言内意义,表现诗歌的独特意象和陌生化美感。

Rich costume culture is embedded in Tang poems.This paper analyzes the manifestation of Chinese costume culture in Tang poems,and makes a study on the translation methods on Chinese costume culture in the English version of Three Hundred Tang Poems by Peter Harris.It is found that the translator adopts four main translation methods to convey the costume culture embedded in Tang poems,that is,unifying terms by using words of superordinate category,expressing accurately the contextual meaning of Chinese characters,translating literally the image words loaded with Chinese culture,and weakening the rhetoric effects of Chinese metonymy and allusion.These translation methods lay emphasis on the pragmatic meaning and designative meaning of the language,achieving satisfactory effect for cross-cultural communication;and if possible,the translator will try his best to express the linguistic meaning of the language sign,so that the poetic images could be presented with the aesthetics of defamiliarization.
