芭蕾舞剧《红色娘子军》是中国芭蕾民族化探索的里程碑,经过50余年的传播与发展,为红色经典作品的当代传播与文化建构提供了范式。一方面,文章追溯“红色娘子军”的形象来源,梳理芭蕾舞剧《红色娘子军》在不同时期的创作要求下的历史形态与文化建构。另一方面,重点论述2011—2021年芭蕾舞剧《红色娘子军》在“国家在场”与“社会在场”的两种传播导向下,通过大型庆典性或纪念性演出、节日献礼演出、“高雅艺术进校园”演出、基层慰问演出和公益教育演出等方式,深入人民群众,增强民族身份认同。芭蕾舞剧《红色娘子军》所承载的集体记忆与民族精神在当代不断延展,与其他红色经典作品共同承担起艺术美育与弘扬中华传统文化的使命,是中华文化传播与交流的驱动力。
