Empowering Rural Revitalization with the Art of“Using Beauty as a Medium”:A Case Study on the Earth Art Festival of Japan’s Echigo-Tsumari Area

党的二十大报告强调“全面推进乡村振兴”,提出“建设宜居宜业和美乡村”。在2022年12月召开的中央农村工作会议上,习近平总书记指出:“农村现代化是建设农业强国的内在要求和必要条件,建设宜居宜业和美乡村是农业强国的应有之义。”在农业农村全面发展中,乡村文化振兴,是农业强国的必然要求。日本“越后妻有”大地艺术祭作为乡村振兴的成功案例,通过艺术手段激活乡村经济,提升乡村文化品质。艺术节邀请艺术家在乡村创作大型户外艺术品,吸引游客,带动当地经济发展。同时,通过与当地居民的合作,尊重并挖掘乡村特色,激发居民对家乡的自豪感。文章还介绍了代表性作品和居所改造计划,展示了艺术在乡村振兴中的独特作用。这一经验为全球乡村发展提供了有益借鉴。

In the report to the Party’s 20th National Congress.Xi Jinping General secretary stressed the“All-round promotion of rural revitalization”,clearly“To build a livable and career-friendly and the United States countryside”.In the comprehensive development of agriculture and rural areas,the revitalization of rural culture is the strategic direction of agricultural power,and new products and new models are produced along with“beautiful countryside”and“future countryside”.Under the opportunity of rural revitalization,the strategy of art intervention in rural revitalization attempts to promote and solve the problems faced by rural development,emphasizing the common development centered on agriculture,rural areas,and farmers to provide solutions,thereby truly empowering and beautifying the construction of rural areas.This article introduces the successful case of the Japanese Echigo wife Dadi Art Festival as a way to revitalize rural areas and enhance the quality of rural culture through artistic means.The art festival invites artists to create large-scale outdoor artworks in rural areas,attracting tourists and driving local economic development.At the same time,by cooperating with local residents,respecting and exploring rural characteristics,we can stimulate residents’sense of pride in their hometown.The article also introduces representative works and residential renovation plans,showcasing the unique role of art in rural revitalization.This experience provides a reference for global rural development,emphasizing the importance of artistic intervention in rural revitalization.
