The Importance of Strengthening Urban Music Research:A Case Study of the Middle Ancient Period

中古中国城市主要有政治性和商业性两类。曾经作为都城的城市,常常会依靠音乐来反映其政治性的需求而加强礼仪雅乐建设;同时作为城市社会居民主体,王公贵族与百官士族还会因享乐之需,以其音乐趣味主导都市宴享用乐的发展。其他商业都会,则以开放融合的社会形态,因社会各阶层享乐之需而造成民间音乐勃兴和胡俗乐的输入,形成富有特色的城市音乐文化,共同促进了中古伎乐在突出标志性转型发展中既保持了自身特色,又不乏时代烙印。

Middle Ancient Chinese cities were divided into two main categories-the political city and the commercial city.In the ancient capital city in China,music was often relied upon to reflect political needs,in order to strengthen both etiquette and the music system itself.Banquet music developed for the pleasure of the main body of urban residents,consisting of princes,nobles and dignitaries.In the more open society of the commercial cities,Hu music and folk music met the musical entertainment needs of every social class and both prospered.Therefore a distinguished urban musical culture was formed,which both reinforced and transformed the characteristics of ancient music,giving them a unique stamp of the era.
