脑髓有大脑和脑心先后天之分,形似泥丸的间脑位于脑髓中央的泥丸宫,是脑中之脑,脑中之核心,称之为"脑心"。脑心是"人始生,先成精,精成而脑髓生"的根本所在,是《内经》目睛命门所藏的先天之精,是人体生命的根源而主宰着五脏六腑的生理活动,是根源而主宰的心,是以生为本的"生物之心",与血脉之大心相比,它就是"小心",但却是人体的本心,故哲学上强调"本心"之说,中医学上则有"真心""真君""真主""心主"之说,都是有针对性的。"小心"命门与三焦相表里就是脑心命门与三焦相表里,脑心命门君火是三焦相火之根源,三焦则是脑心自主中枢神经系统在胸腹腔的上、中、下三大周围神经纤维网,它们是脑心元神的神机通路。泥丸宫是脑心心主的宫城,是保护心主的心包,心包与三焦相表里,实质上是泥丸宫与三焦相表里,也是心包络之脉足太阳与三焦少阳相表里。
