The sites of Shunshaji culture distribute in the eastern part of the middle reaches of the Huai River.Shuanshanji,Hanjing, and Xuenan are typical sites of Shunshanji Cultue. The remains of Shuanshanji can be divide into 3 periods. The cultural remains of the period 3 have changed significantly compared with the previous two periods. Some scholars suggested that they should belong to two different archaeological cultures. This situation also occurs in Hanjing Site and Xuenan Site.Through analysising the materials of these three sites, this paper summarizes the specific changes that occurred in the second and third phases of each site from the perspective of settlement pattern, subsistence economy, pottery, production tools, and other aspects, and attempts to explore the nature and causes of these changes in combination with the evidence related to environmental archaeology.
