中国古代女性,她们自我意识觉醒的过程是非常曲折而且漫长的,随着封建势力的日渐衰弱,女性意识正在逐渐觉醒,在文学领域出现了许多歌颂女性反对封建礼教束缚、追求美好爱情的文学作品。《西厢记》和《牡丹亭》中的女主人公:崔莺莺、杜丽娘,就是反对封建礼教和勇敢追求爱情的例子,从她们身上体现出女性意识总体轮廓的递进式发展。
