Reverse shaping of digital technologies:On the tension of digital technology

数字化时代背景下,数字技术的成长速度正在赶超人类社会的发展速度,关于数字技术重塑物理世界所引发的人与技术关系异化问题,已然成为当代技术管理研究的首要“攻坚战役”。在这场逆向塑造过程中,数字技术凭借开放性、可供性与自生长性共同作用的重构能力,逐渐获得脱离于社会经济系统而独立构建的力量。具体表现为数字化技术形态由“小圈子”“大生态”向“智能社会”演进,数字化技术靶向由“粗放”“精准”向“重构”转变。进一步地,通过数字技术逆向塑造现实世界,构建了“人与技术关系倒置”的解释框架,以及阐述了数字技术驱动下的“数字脚本-数字模块-数字生态-数字世界”的重塑路径,为深入了解数字技术逆向塑造物理世界的内在机理和实现路径提供了新见解。

The traditional Cartesian subject-object dualism considers the human“subject”as an autonomous agent and the tools as passive“objects”.However,in the context of the digital era,the growth of digital technology is outpacing the development of human society,and the increasingly external technological social structure is rebuilding the social infrastructure with its powerful intelligent technological paradigm,bringing profound changes to people’s production and life.The alienation of human-technology relationship arising from the reshaping of the physical world by digital technology has become a major issue and challenge in the management practice of the digital era,but relevant studies in this field have not yet systematically explored the inner mechanism and development path of the evolution of the relationship between the two.Therefore,based on the ontological perspective,this paper innovatively makes a systematic logical deduction of the evolution of the relationship between the two,explores the specific mechanisms and paths of digital technology reverse shaping,and complements and improves digital-related theories.Specifically,based on the social constructionist position,this paper considers the fundamental problem of the contemporary digital technology revolution as the relationship between human beings and digital technology,which is essentially a discussion of the“flow of agency”between human beings and technology,and focuses on the following research questions:(1)the intrinsic mechanism,i.e.,what causes the flow of agency?(2)the path of realization,i.e.,how does agency flow?In this process of reverse shaping,digital technology,with its reconstruction ability of openness,affordances and generativity,gradually acquires the power to build independently from the socio-economic system,and gradually derives the trend of representing human beings.It is embodied in the evolution of digital technology form from“small circle”and“large ecology”to“intelligent society”,and the transformation of digital technology targeting from“rough”and“precise”to“reconstruction”.Further,through the reverse shaping of the real world by digital technology,the explanatory framework of“inverted human-technology relationship”is constructed,and the reshaping path of“digital script-digital module-digital ecology-digital world”driven by digital technology is elaborated,which provides a deeper understanding of the reverse shaping of the physical world by digital technology.This paper provides new insights into the inner mechanism and realization path of digital technology’s reverse shaping of the physical world.The theoretical contribution of this paper lies in:firstly,re-understand the management subject.The paper expands from a single human management subject to a form that includes human-technology co-management and technology management subjects,transcending the traditional“subject-object”dualism;secondly,it provides an explanation mechanism for the inner mechanism of the evolution of human-technology relationship.The immateriality and computability of digital technology,as well as the openness,affordances and generativity derived from it,give digital technology the supernatural ability to reconstruct,and promote the gradual flow of agency from human beings to digital technology;thirdly,it provides a realization path for digital technology to reverse shape the physical world.Taking“digital script-digital module-digital ecology-digital world”as the development path,we make a systematic logical interpretation of the reverse shaping process of digital technology from the business level,organizational level and overall social structure level.
