Heinrich Kayser:the Supervisor of the Doctoral Thesis of Li Fuji

Heinrich Kayser was the supervisor of the doctoral thesis of Li Fuji, the latter became the first Chinese with a doctor’s degree in physics in 1907. Beginning with Kayser’s background, this article describes his early life and academic career in Berlin, Hannover and Bonn in detail, with emphasis on his main contributions to spectroscopy, and gives some supplementary remarks on the doctoral thesis of Li Fuji.
