Making a study of translator’s relationship with other involved parties and his(her)status in translation from the perspective of new theory of translation power, this paper discusses four kinds of the relationship, which are the relationship dominated by translator, the relationship dominated by translator and other involved parties(or subjects of translation power)in different stages of the translation process, the relationship of opposition and the relationship of order-giver and order-taker,and concludes that there are three kinds of status for a translator, which are the status as a dominator in the process of selection of texts to be translated to the publication of translated texts, the status as a dominator in a certain stage in the process of translation and the status of an operator who has limited power in the linguistic operation. It is believed that the study can help us have a more thorough and clearer understanding of the relationship and the translator’s real status, the role that he or she plays in cross-cultural communication and other issues related with translator’s status.
