“化境”论与《三字经》马礼逊英译本研究

A Study on Huajing in Robert Morrison’s English Translation of ree Character Classic

中国文化典籍外译是建立"文化自信"的重要一环。外译过程中,对文化典籍现有译本的评价与研究必不可少。本文试结合钱锺书所提出的"化境"论角度,对英国传教士马礼逊的《三字经》英译本——尤其其中的"讹"成分展开定性研究。经分析得出,该译本尽可能做到了保留与展现中国文化,是起到文化"居间"作用的"欠化"译本,值得我们在典籍外译中借鉴。

Translating Chinese cultural classics plays an important part of establishing"cultural selfconfidence".In this process,evaluation and researches of the existing translations of cultural classics is indispensable.This article tries to combine the concept of huajing,or sublimation summarized by Qian Zhongshu and the English translation of ree Character Classic by Robert Morrison,a British missionary,especially the"miswording"component included.According to the analysis,the translation has preserved and displayed Chinese culture as much as possible,and it is an"underdeveloped"translation that plays the role of cultural"intermediation".It is what we can learn for the translation of classics.
