Brief Report on the 2018 Survey,Coring and Excavation of the Qixingdun Site in Huarong County, Hunan

2018年对七星墩遗址的调查、勘探和发掘,可知七星墩城址由内、外两圈城垣与城壕组成,内、外两圈城垣为同时修筑。发掘的遗迹有窑址、土坑墓、瓮棺葬等,出土遗物有陶器和石器。此次发掘的遗存分三期,分属于屈家岭文化、石家河文化和肖家屋脊文化,绝对年代为公元前3100~1800年。

Survey,coring and excavation of the Qixingdun site at Dongxu Village in Huarong County,Hunan conducted by the Hunan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology in 2018 revealed two layers of concentric city walls and surrounding ditches.The inner city has a rounded rectangular layout,while the outer city is circular in plan.The two layers of city walls have identical depositional characteristics,which indicates their contemporality.In addition,a variety of features were also uncovered,including kilns,pit tombs,jar burials,burnt earth layers,midden ditches,and midden pits,along with unearthed objects made of pottery and stone.Excavated cultural remains can be divided into three phases of periodization:the Qujialing culture,Shijiahe culture,and Xiaojia Wuji culture,respectively,dating from 3100 BC to 1800 BC.Settlement archaeological study of the Qixingdun site is of significant value for the discussion of late Neolithic settlement organization,the man-land relationship,as well as for deepening the study of civilizational origins and formation in the middle Yangtze River.
