In the old town of Kyoto, many Machiya(traditional town houses)and Nagaya(row houses)are being gradually demolished. However,in one parking lot, traces of an alley and three Nagaya have been preserved.Unlike the traditional practice of demolishing Nagaya and building new hotels or apartments, this project preserves these alley traces and Nagaya clusters as historical relics to showcase the formation process of the neighborhood. In the design, steel frames are erected across the Nagaya, and recycled shipping containers are placed on them, serving as an office building with restaurant.
