Between Old and New Moral Orders:Exploring the Spaces of homosexual behavior in Renaissance England

文艺复兴时期,英格兰经历了经济、文化、宗教等方面的变迁,促进了男同行为的活跃,剧院、妓院、内府成为其重要的聚集空间。通过对这些空间中男同行为的分析,能深刻感知文艺复兴给传统两性观念等带来的巨大冲击;同时,因对阶层界限的僭越,男同行为也引发了秩序方面的忧虑。基于此,男同行为遭到法学家等社会群体的抨击。同时,政府也陆续颁布限制男同行为的法令。但是,因法令旨在建立听命于英王的国家教会,政府对男同行为施以相对宽容的态度。

During the Renaissance,England experienced economic,cultural,religious and other changes,which promoted the active homosexual behavior.Theatres,brothels and noble houses became important gathering spaces.Through the analysis of the homosexual behavior in these spaces,we can deeply perceive the great impact of the Renaissance on the traditional concepts of gender.At the same time,homosexual behavior also raises concerns about order because of the transgression of class boundaries.On this basis,homosexual behavior has been attacked by jurists and other social groups.Meanwhile,the government has issued a series of laws restricting homosexual behavior.However,the government took a relatively lenient attitude towards homosexual behavior,as the decree aimed to establish a state church that would answer to the King.
